☢ Decontamination Broth
Miso Soup • System Flush
When the air tastes like ash and your gut feels like a war zone, this is the reset button.
Fermented miso floods your system with beneficial bacteria while the hot broth rehydrates you
after a long supply run. Five minutes, one pot, zero wasted fuel — and it will not spike your
blood sugar. In the wasteland, that's a medical-grade asset.
⚗ Required Supplies:
- 2 cups water
- ~2 Tbsp miso soup concentrate (follow the bottle's ratio — usually ~1 Tbsp per cup of hot water)
- 3–4 oz extra-firm tofu, cut into ½-inch cubes
- 1 green onion, thinly sliced
- Optional: a small handful of sliced shiitake
🔧 Preparation Protocol:
STEP 1: Bring the water to a gentle simmer over medium heat. If using the
shiitake, add them now and simmer 2–3 minutes.
STEP 2: Turn off the heat. Stir in the concentrate until fully dissolved. Never
boil the soup after this point — boiling kills the flavor (and the live cultures).
STEP 3: Add the tofu cubes and green onion. Let sit 1 minute so the tofu warms
through.
STEP 4: Taste: too salty, add a splash of water; too mild, stir in a little more
concentrate. Serve right away.
⚠ SURVIVAL NOTE: Nearly zero carbs, almost no calories — this broth hydrates and restores
without touching your glucose. The sodium also helps if you've been sweating through a patrol.
Survivors managing blood sugar: this is one of the safest things in the ration locker. As always,
rations are no substitute for real medical personnel if you have a condition.
